Director of Strategic Communications
June 1, 2008

The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS) seeks a Director of Strategic Communications. Working closely with, and reporting directly to, the Executive Director, the DOSC will coordinate a comprehensive external communications initiative designed to re-brand the boarding school category among several audiences. A second and complementary communications initiative is focused on strengthening our relationships with member schools. In support of these parallel efforts, the Director is the day-to-day liaison with the outside marketing agency of record, and supervises all other communications vendors. The Director also has responsibility for working with member schools to gather any necessary editorial content and imagery, and for enlisting their logistical assistance on behalf of a dramatically intensified endeavor to tell the boarding school story. The DOSC effectively serves as the Director of PR as well as the managing editor of existing and new institutional communications, including the TABS website(s).

The successful candidate will be energetic, astute, uncompromisingly professional, entrepreneurial, resilient, and well-suited to a friendly but dynamic and results-oriented environment. Should be comfortable working on projects that by turns require close collaboration and high autonomy. The Director constitutes a 1-person office, with shared administrative support.

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of applicable experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Sterling character and exceptional project management skills, including budget line supervision, absolutely mandatory. Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills, and well-calibrated design judgment, are all essential. Also essential: excellent proficiency in desktop design and Microsoft Office. Prefer candidates with solid database facility. The successful candidate will have experience across a broad range of marketing disciplines, and a demonstrated record of executing impact communications in either a for-profit or not-for-profit setting.

Compensation is competitive. Search commences immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Email or send your materials (no phone calls or faxes, please) to:
